So I realize it is nowhere near winter but today my inspiration is to do a Photo Friday post about one of my all time favorite Christmas decorations! It is the children’s nativity! Last Christmas as I gazed at the smiling faces of this scene I simply had to snap some pictures. It ended up as a little photo shoot with my Mom’s nativity and it was so much fun!
Today I am remembering the fun I had with that photo shoot and the joy this story brings. And I would like to share these pictures with you in hopes that a little joy may sneak out and fill you with happiness too!
I would like to introduce the first two characters. They are the angel and, of course, Baby Jesus.
I can’t help but love this! The angel watching Jesus reminds me of all Jesus gave up for us. He went from Heaven where his was surrounded by holy angels to the stable where He was surrounded by lowly animals.
I often imagine the angels watching Him and wondering why He went through all He did just to save us humans. In fact we wonder that sometimes too yet He always reminds of His unending love! Oh how amazing God’s love for us is! And someday the angels too shall understand!
Next we have Joseph and Mary. I love how they were designed. Their cheerful children’s smiles bring out the joy of Jesus like few other things can!
I love these joyful shepherds and their little lamb! They look so delighted! And they remind me that no matter who we are, God still loves us with all His heart.
But more than anything I just love their enthusiasm! The way this little shepherd girl has her hands clasped over her head makes her look as though she could just bounce with excitement!
The older shepherd seems to be contemplating just how amazing Jesus is. Perhaps he’s wondering just exactly what the night’s events really meant!
I often wonder what the shepherds thought. How could they have fully understood what all had happened? Did their joy that came that first night ever falter or did they always believe unswervingly? Did they meet Jesus as a personal Savior? I certainly hope so!
The three wise men have always been some of my favorite characters in this story. It has always intrigued me how they traveled from a far away country following only a star and an ancient prophecy. Like with the shepherds I often wonder if they could have even began to grasp the fullness of all they saw.
I can only wonder . . .
Yet they traveled all that way to bring Him gifts so they surely understood that He was mightier than just an ordinary king! Perhaps that is why I like them so well, they acted entirely by faith.
I love the royal, kingly colors on the sweet, little children. That, in fact, is why I love this nativity in the first place. The little children are simply adorable!
All the characters from Baby Jesus to the donkey and sheep are beautifully made. And it is meant to look like a Christmas pageant!
I love Mary’s little tennis shoes peeking out from beneath her first century costume!
And the angel’s wings are simply adorable!
Yes, this nativity has always been a favorite of mine! And I believe it always will be. I’ve gone from gazing at my grandma’s to getting one of my own. It fills my heart with many memories and, always, a little burst of vibrant joy! Whether it be winter or summer, the joy it brings is a joy I always love to feel!
